Many ways

IMMPREST-LA decision support tool

Need help to resolve complex procurement, design and construction challenges? - How do you evaluate which way to proceed on a project, what is the best option?

The Systematic Approach

The systematic approach optimises the combination of a predefined and engineered building system and the appropriate use of factory-made offsite solutions. This approach can be applied to whole buildings or to elements within a building. This method has sometimes been accused of producing boring, pedestrian architecture, but excellent design can produce excellent results.

Click here for more information on the systematic approach.

The Bespoke Approach

The bespoke approach designs buildings from scratch, generally relying on craft-based skills to realise the concept. Some excellent buildings can be produced in this way, but the risk of failure can be high.

This is a web-based tool to help quickly establish the best approach for a particular project based on the information you have available.

Decision support tool

This tool, developed by Loughborough University and the East Midlands Centre for Constructing the Built Environment (EMCBE) will enable an appropriate approach to be taken for each project.

By considering drivers such as cost, time and quality and project constraints such as procurement and site environment, the web-based tool helps decision makers to take the first step towards choosing a project design and construction strategy.

The tool delivers a project-specific report for clients or other interested parties to demonstrate that all the options have been considered. It has been designed so that an answer can be produced within a short period of time.
